External Remodeling Ideas for Your Home
Wednesday, September 06, 2006
Regular external maintenance is always the best approach to updating the look of
your home on the outside and improving curb appeal. Subtle modifications, for
minimal cost and maximum impact, include:
- Adding color with paint to emphasize existing attractive features, such
as window frames, decorative beams, and porches.
- Protecting woodwork with specially formulated colored paint or sealant.
Paint at the end of summer, when the wood is dry and before the weather
becomes wet or frosty.
- Cleaning external brickwork or concrete slabs with a liquid masonry
cleaner, obtainable from any home improvement store. For best results,
follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Pressure-washing external stonework. High-powered pressure washers can
be rented from a commercial equipment supplier.
- Maintaining landscaping. Whether your landscaping consists of a
manicured lawn, a cottage garden, or a xeriscape, how well you maintain the
landscaping is a major factor in curb appeal.
